The Healing Crisis
It is very important to know that it is normal to have a "healing crisis" when you use treatments that do cure. A healing crisis means that you get worse before you get better. It is a hard subject to understand, and harder still to recognize: is it a healing crisis, or is it an allergy to the treatment?
Medicines versus cures: almost all pharmaceutical drugs do not cure, they only block the symptoms. That is why they produce no healing crisis at all: they simply do not cure anything. Treatments that do cure, on the other hand, usually produce a temporary crisis during the healing process.
For example: if MMS or MMS2 makes you feel bad, it is because your body needs it. A dose of 100 drops, if you do not need it, causes no negative effect; but a single drop, if you do need it, can make you feel quite ill. It sounds ironic, but it is true. What happens is that when the immune system eliminates unwanted cells, those dead cells release a great many toxins as they break down. Those toxins are what cause discomforts such as headache, fever, diarrhea or muscle aches.
Another example: if you are very short of magnesium and suddenly start giving it to the body, it "goes wild" and begins solving problems all over the place. This produces a temporary healing crisis, which can cause diarrhea even at low doses. This does not mean you should not take magnesium; on the contrary. It only means you should start with low doses and increase little by little.
The way to reduce and prevent healing crises is simply to go slowly with the dose. Once, a man ill with hepatitis C took 200 times the recommended dose of MMS: he was cured, he really was cured, but after a very severe healing crisis. Better to go slowly.
A sudden change of diet can be very unpleasant, even harmful. Better to go slowly, but with a goal: for example, setting out to change the diet 100% within ten to thirty days.
Fasting is much easier after a few weeks on a carnivorous diet. If the body is already in ketosis — that is, burning fat as energy — enduring a fast is much easier than if you are coming from a diet high in carbohydrates.
Although the press almost always lies and looks to frighten us — and then, as the weeks go by, we realize it was all a lie — I do believe there is a real possibility of a deadly virus, created in a laboratory for biological warfare. Being informed and prepared may save our lives one day. In any case, it does not have to be a deadly virus for this advice to help us greatly shorten the course of a common one.
The terrain model
There is another way of reading all this, and it comes from what is called the "terrain model." Dr. Amandha Dawn Vollmer, a naturopath, sums it up this way: the body does not have an "immune system" that fights against invading organisms, but rather a cleaning network. That network is made up of the digestive tract, the liver, the kidneys, the intestines, the lungs, the skin, the lymphatic vessels, the connective tissues, the blood, the mucous membranes and the tissue-repair mechanisms. They are always switched on: they identify damaged material, take it apart, transport it and prepare it to be removed.
According to her, germs are not the cause of illness but the consequence, and the root is always one of these three things, or a combination: toxicity or poisoning, insufficiency of nutrients, and stagnation or blockage. Bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms, parasites included, are "the cleaning crew": they respond to the signals the terrain gives them. Their activity can become excessive, irritating or destructive when the terrain is heavily loaded, and their presence indicates a need of the body. They are not attacking you.
On one point she goes further than this book: she holds that germ theory is false and that no virus exists, nor has one ever been isolated. I present it to you as she states it. On "viruses" and the toxins that cells store, see also Chapter 16.
Symptoms as part of the cleaning
The healing crisis I spoke of above is a particular case: you get worse for a while because a treatment that does cure set the body to work. Vollmer extends the idea to much more ground: for her, inflammation, mucus, fever, swelling, diarrhea, cough, skin eruptions and fatigue are, in general, expressions of healing. They mean there is activity: tissue repair, mobilization of blood and elimination. It is worth being clear about this: that is broader than the classic healing crisis.
Minerals are measured in relation to one another
It is worth repeating: when vitamins and minerals are evaluated they have to be seen in relation to one another, not separately. An excess of zinc reduces the absorption of copper. If magnesium is lacking, it is very hard to replace potassium. A lack of iron increases the absorption of lead. Toxic metals can displace or get in the way of the essential minerals. And vitamin D needs K2 to take calcium where it belongs.
Terrain clues: where to look them up
Vollmer also keeps an A-to-Z guide of what she calls terrain clues. For each complaint — from reflux and allergies through insomnia, brain fog, joint stiffness, bone loss and being overweight — she lists the nutrient shortages, the congested organs and the toxic loads that in her view are worth reviewing. It runs to more than a hundred and fifty entries, and rather than reproduce her list here I would rather send you to it directly; the link is at the end of this chapter.
Two things are worth keeping in mind whatever you read there. Her arrow means "common patterns worth reviewing": it does not say that every factor listed is present, nor that a problem has only one cause. And two of the entries carry warnings that override everything else — seizures require neurological evaluation, and acute chest pain requires immediate evaluation. Do not sit at home reviewing a mineral list while either of those is happening.
