Chapter 30
NUMEROLOGY, SACRED GEOMETRY
Numerology and sacred geometry are two advanced tools worth mentioning, but which I recommend you leave for last — except, of course, if these subjects are of the greatest joy to you. Numerology comes from the Latin word numerus, meaning “number,” and the Greek word logos, meaning “word,” “thought,” or “expression”; numerology can therefore be defined as “the science of numbers.” Since ancient times, people have created a mystical relationship between numbers and the character or action of physical objects and living things. Today, numerology is used to predict the future and to better understand human behavior patterns.
The term “sacred geometry” is used by archaeologists, anthropologists, and geometricians to encompass the religious, philosophical, and spiritual beliefs that have grown up around geometry in various cultures over the course of human history. It is a catch-all term, covering Pythagorean and neo-Platonic geometry, as well as the perceived relationships between organic curves and logarithmic curves. It is found in the architecture of the universe, in the human body, in a flower, in DNA, and in art, and it can be used in advanced consciousness-creating meditation techniques. The universe is created by a thought-consciousness that manifests in physical reality through a geometric blueprint we call sacred geometry, which repeats in cycles, giving the illusion of linear time.
Geometry is the knowledge of the eternally existent.Plato, The Republic, Book VII
One of the most amazing things that happens with the use of some drugs, like ketamine, is seeing all sorts of geometric figures up close; one can spend hours enjoying them. Sacred geometry is the study of geometric forms and their metaphorical relationships to human evolution, as well as a study of the fluid evolutionary transitions of mind, emotion, spirit, and consciousness — reflected in the succeeding transition from one sacred geometric form (state of consciousness) into another.
Why is sacred geometry so important? There are many reasons, but basically, it is valuable to us because it is a meditation for the logical side of our brain. Most of our meditative experiences are centered in the right hemisphere — the intuitive, emotional, feeling side of us; when we meditate, it usually “feels” good, and we can sometimes see visions or images, or hear calming sounds or insightful voices. All of these sensations are located in the right side of our brain. Sacred geometry speaks of a beauty forgotten to most of us, but ready to be awakened once again — a beauty that is not only known intuitively, but also logically, and therefore holistically. Shapes and forms remind us of our place in this universe, and how we can perceive, move, and create in harmony with the world around us. These forms create the very fabric of our universe.
